Thai Massage vs Swedish Massage: Which Should You Choose?
The core difference
Swedish massage is slow, flowing, and relaxation-focused — long gliding strokes over oiled skin, aimed at calming the nervous system. Thai massage is more active: it combines assisted stretching, joint mobilisation, and rhythmic pressure, performed without oil, usually through loose clothing.
Choose Swedish massage if…
You want to unwind, sleep better that night, and mainly experience gentle, continuous pressure rather than active movement. It's also the gentler starting point if this is your first-ever massage.
Choose Thai massage if…
You feel physically 'stuck' — tight hips, limited shoulder mobility, a stiff back that doesn't respond to gentle pressure. The stretching component reaches ranges of motion that a purely pressure-based massage doesn't.
Can you combine the two?
Not usually in a single session, since the techniques and setup differ, but alternating between them across visits — Thai when you feel physically restricted, Swedish when you simply need to decompress — works well for most regular guests.
